Meet the Practitioners Behind Breakout Labs: Patrícia

Ana Patrícia Oliveira’s first day at Breakout Labs was May 18.

It also happened to be the first day of my paternal leave. So, great onboarding from me 😄

Luckily, Marvin was there to prep her for her first training. After that, the training wheels were pretty much off.

Patrícia taught her first training during her first week, and then she taught four weeks in a row.

I remember, in my first interview with Patrícia, she told me she likes a challenge.

I didn’t think much of it at the time. After all, who doesn’t say they like a challenge in a job interview?

But seeing how she handled that first month put that comment into perspective. She really does, and it’s no BS 💪

Another thing I’ve come to appreciate about Patrícia is how disciplined she is.

Every Monday, we have our weekly 1-on-1. And every Monday, she comes in with three clear goals for the week. Things like: “First MVP of the instructor platform ready.”

It always amazes me how much intent she has for the week ahead.

Partly because I personally lack that discipline 😄

But my favorite thing about working with Patrícia is how much she cares about teaching.

Patrícia had taught before joining Breakout Labs, but had been away from it for a while.

In our final interview, she told me that one of the things she wanted was to “feel like a teacher again”.

Then, after her four-week training sprint, I asked her:

“So, do you feel like a teacher again?”

She did 😄

And she wants more of it. She wants to teach more, to learn more and become better at it.

I’m happy she gets to do that with us ❤️
